Sunset from our camp at Monks

Sunset from our camp at Monks

Still in Knysna….wow has it been hot.  Quince and Gypsey have been a little stressed with this heat, so much so, that John and I have adopted a ‘deck’ which is attached to a caravan, next door to where we are camping at Monks.   At least during the day, it is cooler and bearable not only for the dogs, but for the two of us as well.  So, armed with our laptops, a couple of bottles of water, the two dogs, their dish and some hooves, we sit in the cool of the deck till evening, when it is cool enough to go for a walk.  The boardwalk which runs along the front of the caravan park, actually runs from Leisure Isle all the way to Thesen Island along the lagoon.  It is such a wonderful walk, taking us into the hub of Knysna as well, so when not so hot, it is possible to walk into town for some retail therapy.

Strolling around Thesen Island, we came across a Col’cacchio’s pizza, OMG it was like a piece of heaven….we haven’t had Col’cacchio’s pizza since we left Jo’burg and before that Cape Town…so guess what…of course…a pizza evening was in order.   Although smaller than our Col’cacchio in Westlake, Cape Town, it was none the less enjoyable.  Unfortunately their pizzas weren’t as loaded with goodies as ours are in Cape Town, so we are really looking foward to visiting our home base again soon.

John has been cycling, regaining his fitness in time for the Argus in March.   On a couple of his cycles he has met up with fellow cyclists Charles and Steve, both from Switzerland, but regular visitors to Knysna.  We were invited to their home for drinks and snacks, up above Knysna on the mountain, overlooking the lagoon.  Very beautiful up there and I was quite amazed at how many properties were for sale.  Is it a sign of the times?  Who knows!

There are days when I feel like I’m suffering big time with ‘cabin fever’…that’s why its so lekker to be in Knysna…I can simply pick up my bag and zook keys and head out for some ‘retail therapy’ in the village.  Great shopping as there is a Clicks, Woolies, Spar and Picks.  We have also found a great butchery called Greef’s.  Their meat prices are not much more expensive than Picks and their meat is awesome…they make some of the best pork ribs I have ever tasted…especially grilled on the barbie.  Definitely worth a visit when any of you are next in Knysna.

So, time is moving on and we are leaving next Wednesday.  Our next stop is Somerset West for a night as our campervan is due for its first service .  Then on to Chappies.  It will be great to see old friends again..catch up on all the skinner and my favourite…EAT FISH AND CHIPS AT LUCKY FISH.

So, until next time…..bye

Cintsa Beach Walk

It was another lazy Saturday afternoon in Cintsa. Tina was indulging in a siesta so I decided to take the dogs for a leisurely beach walk. One of the most appealing things about Cintsa is the pristine sandy beach that follows the curve of the bay for miles. Tina and I had noticed an astonishing […]
