Dragons Rest

Dragons Rest

So its Monday again, I just cannot believe how fast the time is flying by… shew… we are only here for another couple of weeks, before we leave for our next destination… Port Shepstone on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal.  Anyway back to NOW… I was really beginning to feel like I needed a bit of a pampering, so after chatting to Fiona (she runs the internet cafe in Underberg and also does Kelvin’s bookings),  I found Bobby, the hairdresser, who told me that he opened his shop about 20 years ago in Underberg.  I decided to go the whole hog, highlights, colour, cut and blow dry… my appointment was booked for Wednesday the 29 April 2013 and I couldn’t wait.   In the meantime, John also decided he needed a cut, so Bobby got us both LOL.

Kenmo Lake - Himeville

Kenmo Lake – Himeville

The week was pretty quiet, we did a trip to Kenmo Lake again with the dogs to give them a walk and because it is so beautiful there with the Autumn colours, we spent some time at The Lemon Tree, catching up on emails and Skyping the kids as the connectivity at Dragons Peak is rather poor.  And, we also did our next campervan cooking episode entitled ‘Simply Stroganoff’.  What inspired me to do this dish was that the Underberg is renowned for its delicious beef, so beef it was going to be.

First frost in Underberg

First frost in Underberg

The days were still pretty warm, but the nights were becoming colder and colder.  John, I and the dogs were showered, fed and bundled inside our van by sundown which is round 6ish now.  We had our first morning’s frost… this I am told is the start of Winter in the Underberg.   I must admit I am really looking forward to getting back to the Coast now for a little warmer weather.

Unfortunately we haven’t been able to braai very much, it is just too cold to sit outside in the evenings.    Just the other evening, Kelvin came over to invite us for a drink in his pub.   Two gentlemen from the Netherlands had arrived for an overnight stay before heading up the Sani Pass.  Because John and I had done the Sani, he wanted us to have a chat to them.   We ended up spending quite a bit of time chatting to them, before we noticed it was getting late.  The two guys hadn’t eaten much that day and asked if Kelvin could prepare a meal for them…..ha ha, don’t think so as Kelvin is himself a bachelor.  So, John and I invited them both to a braai at our campervan……it probably was the coldest night we have had in the 3 weeks we have been in the Underberg.    I had two jerseys on, tracksuit and socks plus my thermal jacket and I still felt ccccccold.    My fingers were so cold, I actually couldn’t even make a salad, so we ended up having a real simple meal of ‘leftover salad’, bread and steak….can’t say it was very appertising…also a bit of an embarrassment on my part LOL.

John decided that he wanted to do some time lapse photography (don’t ask…..I will get him to explain!!!).  So this morning he decided to take himself, his camera and the Zook back up the Sani Pass and back.   I’m sure this will be posted on our website shortly, so watch this space.

For now, we are up to date with our blog….the next week is the Sani to Sea week, so Dragons Rest will be full of campers and cyclists…..we will not be the ‘lonely campers’ anymore.   On Thursday the 16th May, we head off to Port Shepstone.  We will be meeting up with our galfriends Mandy and Zillah and of course, not forgetting KD, their doggie.  I am hoping to meet up with an old friend of mine – James Sharkey and some ‘catch up’.  So folks, till next time, keep smiling, keep happy and keep watching our blog page.

ACTIVITIES

Cintsa Beach Walk

It was another lazy Saturday afternoon in Cintsa. Tina was indulging in a siesta so I decided to take the dogs for a leisurely beach walk. One of the most appealing things about Cintsa is the pristine sandy beach that follows the curve of the bay for miles. Tina and I had noticed an astonishing […]
