Swallowtail run by Fritz and Ansie is on about 1.2 hectares of lush green grass. Fritz and Ansie live on the property but have divided their home in two. One side is self catering and sleeps up to 10 people.
The garden has been allocated to campers and caravaners with electrical points in various locations round the garden. Two ablutions blocks with showers, a bath and toilets are available. Clean and neat. Lots of hot water.
There is also a ‘trekkers lounge’. This is a very important place especially when it rains, as it enable the campers to cook, meet, have a sundowner, play pool and kuier. There is a very big fireplace inside for cold wintery and rainy summer days where the temps might not be condusive to sitting outside. Definitely a hit.
The only negative for me, was that there is no laundry on hand for washing or drying of clothes, nor is there any Laundromat in Hogsback or closeby, so that makes it difficult for people staying a while. Ansie was very kind in doing our washing and tumble-drying, but being busy with her own self catering and private laundry, I didn’t want to make it a regular expectation. If it rains, it is very difficult to get washing dry as there is also no undercover hanging area. Most of the campers did their laundry themselves down at the ablution blocks, but there was only a washline in the open, so if it rained it meant your laundry remained wet. It can rain here for quite some time.
Peak season rates are R200 per couple which includes an electrical point.
