Makana Resort – Grahamstown

Makana Resort is situated on the Port Elizabeth road coming into Grahamstown.  A mere 10 minute walk into the heart of the village, so very central, if you have no vehicle.  Nice grassy sites, all with private ablutions and braai facilities.  Also available are cottages in various sizes and gradings.   Although the manageress advised me that the grading was 3*.  On the Tourism Grading Council’s plaque at the entrance to the resort, there was a distinct 1*.    There  are two pools, one for kids and one for adults.  An a la carte restaurant is also advertised, although it wasn’t open for use by the resort guests.  There is also a pub which is open from 6pm each evening till round 10.30pm, however this is not for the sole use of the resort guests, it is very much used by the locals.   If you are looking for privacy, peace and quiet, then this caravan park is not for you.  The resort is open to locals for braais, get-togethers and the pool is fequented by locals too.  An attractive price for pensionsers of R130 per night, however this would not be my first choice of accommodation, if  I had to do this again.
