Feathers Restaurant Hogsback – Fine Food

St Patrick’s on the Hill Chapel Hogsback

We first heard about this eatery from fellow campers Mike and Judy while stating at the Swallowtail Country Estate. Not to be confused with the Feathers Gallery in the Hogsback CBD which we had passed on several occasions, the Feathers restaurant is a few kays up the main road towards the Seymore road junction. The dogs needed a walk so we drove up to St Peters Chapel on the Hill so we could walk down to the restaurant. The quaint stone church has recently been rebuilt after a devastating fire burned the original building to the ground. A quick walk around the church grounds revealed spectacular views of the valley and forested hills to the South, with several well placed benches, it was a tranquil place to re-connect with your spiritual side.

Feathers Restaurant was a 20 minute stroll, when you’re walking Bullies everywhere you go is at stroll pace, back down the hill towards the Hogsback Village. Tall indigenous trees along the road cast a welcome shadow across the road providing the dogs with much needed shade on the winding dirt road towards Hogsback.  A couple of fun looking sculptures crafted from tree branches painted red and decorated with facial attire marked the entrance. Like most of the businesses in Hogsback, the establishment is located in a converted house on one of the large properties. A wide veranda provides ample shade for alfresco dining, especially with dogs in tow. The menu is simple but provides enough variety to satisfy most pallets. Feathers was established in 2010 in the Hogsback CBD, where the art gallery of the same name still exists, and recently took up residence in a grand old garden high on the hill. The smiling waitress even provided a bowl of water for the panting Bullies.

Feeling a bit peckish after our morning walk, Tina and I both ordered the Flatbread Sunny side Up breakfast for the very hungry. The North African style flatbreads, the house specialty,  are freshly made to order and adorned with a variety of toppings. I chose poached eggs and bacon while Tina had the scrambled egg, rocket cheese and bacon. Our table was positioned next to what was once the swimming pool, but now served as a pond with the obligatory water lilies floating serenely in one corner. Breakfast arrived after a short hiatus. The flatbread was baked to perfection and the toppings were well cooked and piping hot. The poached eggs had that slight vinigar tang having been prepared in boiling water. I mopped up the last of the egg yoke with the remains of the bread. A well earned meal was finished off with a fresh cappuccino. Now for the long up-hill walk back to the chapel.

Cintsa Beach Walk

It was another lazy Saturday afternoon in Cintsa. Tina was indulging in a siesta so I decided to take the dogs for a leisurely beach walk. One of the most appealing things about Cintsa is the pristine sandy beach that follows the curve of the bay for miles. Tina and I had noticed an astonishing […]
